BURBANK, Calif. -- Being the third-runner up on "American Idol" can be either a boon or a blessing. Remember Anthony Fedorov or LaKisha Jones? Nope, nor do most people!

But you may have heard of a guy with the last name of "Daughtry"?

Season eight's third-runner up, Allison Iraheta, was signed to Jive Records almost as soon as she possibly could be, and from her we have one of "Idol's" best voices and most pop friendly personas since Chris Daughtry presented himself in season five.

Kelly Clarkson To Rock Hollywood During Free Public Concert This Month

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Kelly Clarkson is going to rock the Hollywood & Highland complex during a free, public performance on September 14 in Los Angeles, Access Hollywood can break exclusively.

Clarkson will perform the final concert in this year's Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert tour. Portions of the concert will be airing on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on September 15.

The Hollywood & Highland complex has room for 5,000 fans. A similar concert last year featuring Mariah Carey had about that many fans in attendance.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- When Michael Johns was eliminated from last season's "American Idol" during week five there was a collective gasp of shock. An early favorite (especially among female fans) John's rendition of "Dream On" by Aerosmith, while not his best performance, certainly didn't deserve to get him the Idol boot. Johns is just the type of person this new judges' "save" is hoping to help.

So, you would think that Johns would find this new rule to be a fantastic addition. In fact, he finds it just the opposite.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- "American Idol" will have a new reigning champ soon enough, but until then, fans of the show will be hearing a former "Idol's" sendoff to the not-so-lucky contestants.

Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood has recorded a remake of Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" to be played as a farewell ballad to each finalist who is sent home, FOX announced on Monday.
